I hope to see the day when we don't close churches, but rather open more up. I hope to see that our beautiful churches are preserved and well taken cared of, instead of being boarded up and have rusty "For Sales" hanging and swinging in the wind. I hope the churches cement the community, as the epicenter, the heart and soul of the neighborhood. A place where families, friends, along with the lost, broken and confused, congregate, learn, commune and celebrate. Keeping our churches open and active is vital to the survival of the worldwide Catholic Church.

The 85-year-old Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation due to health concerns is a shock. First reaction by many people is disbelief and wonder. "What is going on in Rome?" "What is the real reason the pope is stepping down?" The pope’s resignation will take effect at 8 p.m. Rome time on Feb. 28. No pope has stepped down after Pope Celestine V in the 13th century. I believe that what the pope said in his official statement, he really is aware of his physical and mental capacities and he just can't serve.
